Corbridge had eight ‘Hotels & Public Houses’ listed in the 1827 edition of the Parson & White Directory of Durham and Northumberland and eight ‘Hotels, Inns and Taverns’, although not all the same, named in the 1886 edition of Bulmer’s History, Topography and Directory of Northumberland.

Today there are six surviving…plus two more recent arrivals.

The Angel Inn on Main Street – the oldest with a date of “since before 1569”.

Pubs no longer with us are:

The Boot and Shoe in Front Street which is now a restaurant.

The Golden Fleece (1827) in Princes Street was, presumably, The Beerhouse of 1886 and is now a domestic dwelling.

The New Inn on Main Street is the present day Monks Holme, used as a public house between 1827 and 1890.

The Old Bluebell Inn in Market Place was pulled down in 1890 and replaced by the Tynedale Hotel which, in turn, has closed.
